Radio signals from space are like the radio waves that television and
radio stations send. But the radio signals from space are weaker.
Scientists use radio telescopes to detect these faint signals from space.
これが前回の自主学習課題でした。
【訳例】
電波信号で宇宙から来ているものは、ちょうどテレビ局やラジオ局が
送っている放送電波に似ています。しかし宇宙からの電波信号の方が
ずっと微弱です。科学者たちは電波潜望鏡を使って、このような宇宙
からのかすかな信号をとらえます。

Radio Astronomy
The “Radio Astronomy” was born at the time when an American radio
engineer, Karl Hansky tried to get rid of the static noise on his radio receiver.
The static noise would not go away. In fact, the static noise returned every day
at about the same time. He was surprised to discover that it did not come from
the earth. The static noise was a radio signal from outer space.
People used to make jokes about “little green men” sending radio
signals to the earth. We now know that these signals come from
stars, galaxies, and other objects in space.
Radio signals from space are like the radio waves that television and
radio stations send. But the radio signals from space are weaker.
Scientists use radio telescopes to detect these faint signals from space.
